John Gordon, Freelance Writer at Outdoor Life

About

John Gordon has his uncle to thank for starting him off hunting waterfowl at the age of 10 in the Mississippi Delta. His family moved to Kingwood, Texas, when he was 12, opening a new world to him: goose hunting. The Texas coastal prairie was the destination for snow goose and specklebelly hunters in the 1980s and ‘90s and Gordon embraced the sport and eventually became a professional hunting guide for Texas Waterfowl Outfitters and Paradise Hunting Club. Towns like El Campo, Eagle Lake, and Garwood became well known to Gordon as he pursued geese across Texas’ rice country.

Experience

Gordon began his freelance writing career in 2010, writing feature stories in Mississippi Land & Lodges magazine. His portfolio grew from there with published articles in Wildfowl, Gun Dog, Greenhead, Tennessee Sportsman, and others. Gordon has written for Field & Stream and regularly contributes shotgun reviews to Outdoor Life. Gordon currently works for Ducks Unlimited as a Senior Communications Specialist, focusing on production coordination for Ducks Unlimited Television, DU Films, and DU Conserve Films.

Education

Gordon graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Arts in communications.

Words of Wisdom

“One of the best waterfowl hunters I know once told me ‘There are no fences in the sky.’ That statement is so true. You never know what might fly by the blind.”
