Gun safes are often marketed as a way to keep small, inquisitive fingers from “playing” with our firearms. An excellent reason to have and use a gun safe.

But even if you don’t have children, gun theft is a very real possibility, too. According to a Federal Bureau of Investigation’s annual report, Crime in the United States, $143 million in firearms were stolen in 2010 alone. Recovery? About $12 million worth or just 8.4 percent.

With those numbers in mind, owners of multiple firearms might want to consider a safe like those now offered by Browning in the Sporter Series Pro Steel safe line. Four Sporter Series models are available ranging in gun storage capacity of 23 to 60 firearms, and they feature a 12-gauge steel body and 1200 degree F/45 minute fire protection.

To help prevent break ins, Sporter Series safes feature 1-inch chromed locking bolts on both sides of the door that lock into the fully reinforced integrated door frame. Inside, the top half of the safe door features the DPX Storage System that has a variety of pockets and pouches for more storage. The DPX Storage System features a gun rack on the safe door for more storage and easier access to your most used firearms.

Available with a traditional combination lock or Electronic Lock, and come in Hammer Grey or Gloss Black Finishes.

MSRP: $1,149 to $2,188, depending on model and features.
