One hundred sixty-eight boats participated in the two-day event, with 15 threshers and seven makos being weighed in and more than $500,000 in total prize money were paid out. The winners were: Heaviest Shark -- 335 lb. thresher. Boat: "Afishionado." Capt. Mike DeSimone. Angler: Jim Hughes Share 2nd Heaviest Thresher — 330 lbs. Boat: "Halfway There." Capt. Josh Schultz. Angler: John Simo 3rd Heaviest Thresher — 325 lbs. Boat: "We Go." Capt. Bob Weaver. Angler: Karen Weaver Heaviest Mako — 241 lbs. Boat: "Carol Libby." Capt. Greg Brandner. Angler: Keith Brandner 2nd Heaviest Mako — 236 lbs. Boat: "Pancho." Capt. Frank Wade. Angler: Matt Wade 3rd Heaviest Mako — 224 lbs. Boat: "Change Order." Capt. Frank Cimono. Angler: Aden Helland Last year over 340 sharks were released back to the ocean. Of the sharks that were weighed in, over 750 pounds of edible shark meat was donated to the Long Island Council of Churches food pantry to help feed those in need!
